Lucy is an academic psychologist and writer with expertise in mental health and social development, particularly in adolescence. She is a senior research fellow at Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families and an honorary lecturer in psychology at University College London (UCL).

She completed an MRC-funded PhD in psychology at UCL (2011-2015) and a postdoc at UCL's Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience (2015-2017). She then worked as a lecturer in psychology and education at the University of York (2018-2020) and as an editor for the popular psychology magazine Psyche (2020-2021).

Her first book, Losing Our Minds, was published in the UK in April 2021 (Penguin Random House) and in the US/Canada in January 2022 (St. Martin's Press). She is currently writing her next book, about adolescence, which is due for publication in 2024 (Penguin Random House).
